This coffee is exported from Mexico and imported in Europe by Ensambles, a company focused on mexican coffees and see coffee as a way of sustainability for the local and isolated communities.
This is why they started working in this area of Los Altos de Chiapas in 2022.
This coffee represent the work of 9 communities and 87 producers. The farms, if one can call them like that, are 5000 m2. It's more polyculture plots inside the forest.
The main problems here are the difficulty of access, the people migrations and the climate change which raise the risks of leaf rust at low altitudes. The quality of production is also impacted by the lack of knowledge in coffee processing by the locals.
Ensambles provided field technicians to train the farmers as well as access to the international specialty market these coffees now deserve.
In Tzelala
The Bankilal is an authority figure in the tzeltal indigenous culture, who represents the older brother and has the mission of taking care of the minors, leaving aside his interests for the well-being of the community. This coffee is a tribute to them.
