Magwila is one of the smaller groups we are working with, there are 8 farmers forming this group, and they produce about 43 bags of coffee per year (60 kilo bags). The chairman here is Alexander Mwampashi, he has been quite active in pursuing increased production and quality. The manager is Mawazo Mengo.
Magwila Amcos was established in 2007 by producing semi washed coffee. In 2013 Mbozi District Council provided them with a Penagos machine which enabled them to start pulping their coffees in order to produce better quality.
The coffee is fully washed with water from Magwila Pond, fermented in tanks, graded based on density, soaked in tanks and dried on raised beds. The parchment is then hand-picked on the drying tables to remove defects.
