Finca Nuguo is limited on one side by the National Parc La Amistad and on the other side by the costa rican border. Pretty nice location ! The weather doesn't seem to be well adapted for coffee growing. Heavy rains, high winds and very cold nights... According to Jose Gallardo, that's exactly why the cups are so amazing ! Low productivity and slow maturation seem to be key here.
The cherries are pulped using a hand driven machine and parchment is fermented and dried directly in the farm, on african beds, isolated from the rain.
Jose is a passionate and extremely competent farmer, always ready to learn more about farming and processing. The coffees are tracked by day of production and location. They are systematically cupped to determine the best micro lots.
As La Amistad National Parc is next to the farm, biodiversity is important. But Jose and his wife want to even increase it making the farm always more nature frienldy. It's good for the environment and for the eco-toursim they want to develop.
In the cup :
A great acidity completely integrated to the coffee, vibrant and fresh floral notes, heavy but classy body. This geisha is really special, a sort of Yirga on steroids. The honeyed process brings delicate fruity caramelized notes.
